Our 7-semester Bachelor's degree in Classical Music focuses on your personal development as a musician. You will work intensively on technique, expression and interpretation - whether on stage, in the rehearsal room or in lessons. You will be accompanied by in-depth content in music theory, history and pedagogy, which will give you a deep understanding of musical contexts. The aim is to strengthen you artistically and professionally so that you develop into a versatile and expressive musical personality - ready for the professional path.

The focus of your studies is on intensive artistic work - be it on your instrument or with your voice. You will explore classical and contemporary musical styles, expand your repertoire and refine your technique. In this way, you will develop your own personal musical expression.

Your studies will accompany you on the path to becoming a holistic musical personality. In addition to intensive work on your main subject, you will study subjects such as ensemble and chamber music, speech training, sight-singing, music theory, music history, ear training and aesthetics. You will learn to understand and interpret musical works and place them in their cultural context. Practice plays a central role: you gain experience on stage - at concerts, recitals or musical theater productions - and implement your own artistic projects. You will not only strengthen your expressiveness, but also your organizational skills. We also teach you skills in music mediation and music education so that you can pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm later on. In this way, you will be optimally prepared for a versatile musical career.

Artistic Career

Classical Music graduates have a wide range of artistic career opportunities. These include working as an orchestral musician in symphony or chamber orchestras, as a soloist or chamber musician, as an opera singer or instrumentalist at opera houses and theaters and as a freelance concert artist at festivals and international concert series. In addition to classical performance practice, opportunities open up in interdisciplinary projects, media production and music technology - for example as a studio musician or session musician. Singers can also find work in choirs, in song interpretation or in the field of church music. In Berlin, artists have access to various funding opportunities, including state grants, cultural foundations and EU funding programs.

Education and Teaching

Graduates of Classical Music can pursue careers in teaching and research. Possible activities include working as an instrumental or vocal teacher at music schools, conservatories or universities as well as a lecturer in performance practice, musical interpretation or music education. Academic careers are also possible - for example in research into historical performance practice, vocal techniques or instrumental didactics. In Berlin and other cultural centers, there is a constant need for qualified teachers, as both public and private educational institutions regularly advertise teaching positions in the field of music.

Cultural Management

Graduates can also work in cultural management and use their specialist knowledge to play an active role in shaping the music scene. Possible career paths include positions as artistic directors, concert and festival organizers, artist agents or production coordinators. Many graduates work in the administration of orchestras, opera houses and music institutions and contribute to the successful realization of major performances.

This field offers flexible and diverse career opportunities - from working as a music festival coordinator to working as an artist agent, managing musicians and singers and organizing concert tours.

Our Bachelor's degree programme in Classical Music focuses on your artistic development. Your main instrumental or vocal subject accompanies you throughout the entire degree programme and is complemented by in-depth theoretical and academic content. In the practical artistic subjects, you can develop your creativity and discover new forms of expression.

You'll deal intensively with topics such as music and health and explore a wide range of pedagogical approaches - always with the aim of experiencing and communicating music in very different ways.

You will complete your studies with a creative project or a written thesis - whatever suits you and your goals.
