Welcome and congratulate you on your initiative to learn the language of the Holy Quran.


We would like you to know that the Al Madinah International University has prepared a remarkable programme for teaching the Arabic Language for non- Arabic Speakers. This programme consists of an integrated, comprehensive and well-developed curriculum which starts with the basics of the language for those who have no Arabic language background and gradually develops to advanced levels.


Therefore, the curriculum will prepare you to:

  1. Have a command in the skills of the Arabic language to a near native Arabic speaker level.
  2. Communicate fluently in the spoken and written Arabic.
  3. Be able to use Arabic for studying as well as research purposes.
  4. Understand many verses of the Holy Quran, Prophetic traditions, and Arabic poetry.
  5. Understand the main categories in the Islamic Jurisprudence.
  6. Obtain knowledge on the Biography of the Prophet peace be on him and the history of his companions and his successors.


As a matter of fact, this will also eventually enable you to:

  1. Pursue your studies where Arabic is a medium of instruction.
  2. Pursue a career in the field of tourism.
  3. Pursue a career in the field of translation.
  4. Get a job in commercial enterprises in the Arabic speaking countries.
  5. Work in the field of information and commercial advertising.
  6. Have start-up business opportunities in Arabic speaking countries.


The programme consists of core language materials as well as supporting materials. The core language materials aim at developing your command of the language while the supporting materials aim at deepening your knowledge of the Arabic language and training you to implement what you have learned. Also, these language materials also aim at elevating your cultural awareness as well as religious consciousness.


The method of introducing the educational material in this programme is constructed according to the following principles:

  1. Interaction between the teacher and the learner.
  2. Encouraging the cooperation between learners.
  3. Encouraging active learning.
  4. Providing immediate feedback.
  5. Allowing ample time for learning.
  6. Using a variety of teaching methods.


Following these principles will ensure active learning which could take place be it by traditional, presumptive/perceptive or self-education methods.


Learning is an interaction between the learner, the teacher and the subject taught. In the Al-Madinah International University we try to achieve successful active learning using the best modern technology and the most suitable methods of e-learning.


We strive also to make the learning process accessible at all times. In this way, you can learn either by directly meeting with your teacher or by using the interactive learning programmes through the world -wide -web. You can also practise self-education by using compact disks (CD’s) or the traditional books provided. All this is for the sake of providing you with knowledge continuously, anytime, anywhere.

  1. No pre-requisites to register, it is open for the public.
  2. The applicants can enroll in all subjects of the level in one semester (14 weeks )
  3. Students can take a number of subjects of a certain level in one semester and complete the rest of subjects of that level in the following semesters.
  4. Students MUST be enrolled in a minimum of two subjects per semester.
  5. The student will be awarded a certificate for completing the level if he/she had completed the level’s requirement of the study.
  6. The students who don’t complete the level’s requirement will be given a certificate of the subjects that were completed successfully.
  7. Currently Arabic Short Course are delivered by two modes including : A. Online Teaching Mode, B. Traditional Teaching Mode ( Currently in Desa Petaling Centre Only )
  8. Study fees in one semester (14 weeks )
  • i. RM 300 for each major subject (*3 credit hours )
  • ii. RM 200 for each support subject (* 2 credit hours )

In delivering an academic course, there are four major elements involved, namely:

A) Teaching Activities

1) Lecture:

  • Minimum 2 hours per subject per semester
  • The 2 hours of the lecture are delivered in the following manners: 1) 1 hour at the beginning of the semester – to set the class direction and to give general overview of the subject, its objectives and learning outcomes, tips to excel in learning the subject and other related matters. 2) 1 hour towards the end of the semester – to wrap up what have been studied throughout the semester and to guide students for the preparation for the final examination. Lecturer to students’ ratio at maximum 1:350.
  • Synchronously implemented in the following order: a) Physical face-to-face. b) Online face-to-face through video conferencing (utilising ALIM). The session is accessible through students own PC and internet connection. c) Online face-to-face through video conferencing. Students are required to attend the session at a designated location such as at a rented hall, etc. d) Video streaming (recorded lecture), followed by interactive sessions (teleconferencing, chatting, etc) with students.
  • Compulsory Attendance: not less than 80%


2) Tutorial

  • Minimum 4 hours per semester per subject
  • The 4 hours of the tutorials are delivered in the following manners: 1) 2 hours before mid-semester examination. 2) 2 hours after mid-semester examination. During tutorials, the following subjects are normally discussed: a) Emphasising on some important topics. b) Clarifying some ‘difficult’ topics. c) Current application of some selected topics. d) Case study. e) Others. Tutor to students’ ratio at maximum 1:25.
  • Synchronously implemented in the above orders.
  • Compulsory Attendance not less than 80%


3) E-Lecture

  • Average 1.5 hours per week per subject
  • Learning materials are prepared and posted onto ALIM on week by week basis.
  • Online asynchronously through ALIM
  • Compulsory at students’ own convenience


B) Learning Support Activities

1) E-Consultation

  • 1 hour per week per subject
  • E-consultation is a platform of communication between students and lecturers. Students may, at any time, send any query to their lecturer through e-mail.Lecturer must respond to the e-mail within 48 hours or less. An interactive session can also be initiated by lecturer or student to discuss matters that cannot be answered through one way communication. All questions and answers during e-consultation will be kept in ‘eConsultation Bank’ for future reference through search engine by both students and lecturers.
  • Online asynchronously with the following arrangements:a) Students will send queries to lecturers through e-mail.b) Lecturer will respond through one of the following methods: i. One way communication through e-mail, pre-recorded voice or pre-recorded video. ii. Interactive session (if needed). Lecturer will initiate appointment with student for one of the following session: chit-chat, teleconferencing or video conferencing (through ALIM) This interactive session can also be requested by students on an appointment basis.
  • Optional at students’ own convenience


2) E-Forum

  • 1 hour per week per subject
  • E-forum is an important method for tutor and lecturer to ascertain the followings:a) Students understand the subject. b) Learning outcomes of the subject are achieved. c) Students are able to apply the knowledge gained into current situations. Illustration: From 1st to 7th of April, an e-forum is open to discuss on a specific topic. Within those seven days, student can read and participate in the discussion. He may open the e-forum and participate at any time and as many time as he wants. The tutor will have to monitor the discussion and to guide students in the discussion in case the discussion goes outside the given topic.
  • Online asynchronously with the following arrangements:a) Tutor will prepare topic(s) for e-forum. The topic must be suitable for discussion such as a case study, newspaper cutting for relevant event/incident, etc. The topic is also related to the learning outcome of the subject. b) Lecturer will have a look at the suitability of the topic. c) Upon obtaining lecturer’s approval, tutor will post the topic onto ALIM and determine the beginning and ending time for the forum. d) Tutor will ensure that the discussion is within the subject matter. Guidance from the tutor may be needed during the running of the forum. e) At the end of e-forum session, tutor will: i. Give participation mark. ii. Give summary and comment about the discussion.
  • Compulsory at students’ own convenience within stipulated range of time. Participation marks given.


3) Assignment

  • 1 hour per subject per week
  • The main objective of the assignment is to ensure that students have gone through the courseware (through ALIM), the master text and other relevant resources. It is up to the tutor and lecturer on whether to have a weekly assignment or at any other interval. As general guidelines, a weekly assignment requires about one hour research and writing time. It is expected that the average length of the answer/essay from students is half a page to one page. A fortnightly assignment or assignments at any other interval must take into account the learning hours that students must spend to complete the assignment.
  • Online asynchronously with the following arrangements: a) Tutor will prepare topic(s) for assignment. The topic requires only short answer/essay from students. b) Lecturer will have a look at the suitability of the topic. c) Upon obtaining lecturer’s approval, tutor will post the topic onto ALIM and determine the last date for the submission of the assignment. d) Upon receiving the assignment, tutor will give participation mark and comment (if any).
  • Compulsory at students’ own convenience within stipulated range of time. Participation marks given.


C) Self Study

1) Quizzes

  • 1 hour per subject per week
  • Most quizzes and exercises are designed within ALIM.
  • Online asynchronously through ALIM. Students answer the quizzes and exercises. Students may know the correct answers through ALIM.
  • Optional at students’ own convenience.


2) Reading from master text and other relevant resources

  • Average 4 hours per week
  • In addition to e-lecture, students are given master text for each subject. Each master text consists of the followings: a) Discussion about the topic in detail. b) References to some relevant resources. c) Voice over (for some master texts).
  • Offline asynchronously through CD. Students are required to study the master text.
  • Compulsory at students’ own convenience. No marks given.


D) Examinations

1) Mid semester examination

  • Average of 1 hour per subject per semester
  • Students are required to take the examination that carries 20-30 marks respectively.
  • Online or offline at: a) Learning centre. b) Other designated place
  •  Compulsory at stipulated time.


2) Final Examination

  • Average of 2 hours per subject per semester
  • Students are required to take the examination that carries 50-60 marks respectively.
